Likka Store Zack Mellman-Carsey
Zach Mellman-Carsey is a visual artist living in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Zach received his Master’s degree in Fine Art Jewelry and Metalsmithing at Indiana University in Bloomington. Zach’s work explores the use of technology embedded into wearable jewelry using computer-aided design and digital fabrication to further concepts of identity, place, and mourning.
Likka Store is an exhibition of eight brooches and two sculptures. All of the work incorporates both traditional jewelry-making techniques alongside technological components such as sound and video.
Zach’s work explores the personal need for ritual in times of instability and grief. By recontextualizing an ancient method of offering to the dead, Zach is exploring an interesting glimpse into their adverse past. A desire for wealth to escape the false promise of class mobility becomes a theme of moral impasse.
