Box of Rocks

Nine rocks are making a debut in the Jewelry Box. Created with precious gemstones, silver, glass, and acrylic, these brooches explore facets of beauty and perception.
"Box of Rocks" is a collection that explores the relationship between value and nature, suggesting that beauty isn’t always found in what is obvious or rare, but can be discovered in the unexpected.
As children, we often pick up stones, carrying them home as treasures. This sense of wonder, the ability to imbue something ordinary with personal meaning, is at the heart of the work. Just as a child sees a stone as precious, these pieces encourage the viewer to pause and reconsider the value of what might otherwise be overlooked.
Through "Box of Rocks," I reflect on themes of transformation, fragility, and the meanings we assign to even the simplest objects. It’s a meditation on how the raw and the crafted can coexist, and how something as simple as a stone can hold far more than we initially perceive. - Chantel Gushue
